Playing saxophone and piano, Deanna is a dynamo on stage. Here eclectic repertoire runs from boogie and blues to Nora Jones-style jazz, all of which is well represented on Real Time About the Artist Born in Detroit and raised in New York and Phoenix, Deanna Bogart moved to the Baltimore / Washington area in 1981 to begin her professional career at the age of twenty-one with the Western Swing group Cowboy Jazz. She wrote the title tune for their second Rounder Records release, Swing Boogie, which won an award for best album on an independent label in 1984. She then spent a year and a half as part of the famed Capitol Offense horn section backing Root Boy Slim. Since starting her own group in 1987 she has become very popular performing he own style of boogie woogie, blues, and jazz. Her influences include James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Little Feat, and Jay McShann. Over the years Deanna has backed performers such as Vassar Clements, Johnny Paycheck, and Tiny Tim. She has also performed with Commander Cody, the Legendary Blues Band, and Buddy Guy. Deanna was one of the pianists featured during Radio City Music Hall's half-time show at the 1988 Super Bowl in San Diego. She was also named best piano player in the Mid-Atlantic region for 1988 and '89 by Maryland Musician Magazine. She loves to perform and is constantly touring the club and festival circuit. As Deanna says, "There's nothing worse than a musician who's not playing. They get depressed and make everyone around them crazy." On stage, however, she has a way of driving audiences crazy, when she enthusiastically pounds on the piano keys or honks out powerful saxophone riffs. She comes alive when she gets the house jumping. "It's not just music, it's a way of life," she says.
