American StringbookOpis:Review On their second album, the youthful (if annoyingly named) do.gma chamber orchestra led by Mikhail Gurewitsch deliver an unusual programme. Those who have discovered the vivid, intense music of William Schuman will be well aware that he is one of the most rewarding composers to have emerged from America, combining sinewy strength with an imposing command of orchestral resources. Those characteristics are particularly evident in the composer's Fifth Symphony, here given a notably dramatic reading (if without the intensity of the classic Bernstein reading).
