ResponsoriumOpis:Five years after the best-selling 'Kultrum' (with the Rosamunde Quartet), the great Argentine bandoneonist Dino Saluzzi returns with a new and very beautiful album. His fellow bandeonistas agree: since the death of his friend Astor Piazzolla, Saluzzi is unchallenged as the man taking the instrument and the music of his homeland forward. As a soloist, composer and musical storyteller (his tales laced with nostalgia, yearning, and sadness) he is a unique figure. 'Responsorium' features Saluzzi's superb new trio with the great Swedish bassist Palle Danielsson and Dino's gifted son, José on acoustic guitar. Danielsson's rooted, powerful bass sound has been one of the most distinctive in jazz for four decades, and he is considered to be one of the seminal figures of European modern jazz. Whilst the daily playing with his father in jazz, tango and folk idioms has given young José a deep insight into the Saluzzi musical universe. 'Responsorium' goes further than the critically heralded 'Cité de la Musique' (Saluzzi's last bandoneon, bass and guitar album) - the harmony is freer and all three players have a lot of room to embellish the bittersweet atmospheres of Dino's memorable songs.
