SalvationOpis:Grubbs’ mother was a piano teacher and choir director. He began playing piano when he was 5. His early influences came from Billy Joel, Elton John, Led Zeppelin and Bach, Beethoven and Brahms “One of my main influences now is the fact that I didn’t have someone teach me proper jazz or rock playing,” explains Grubbs. “So I found my own style by experimenting with what works and what doesn’t". Learned to reach a balance of pop and indie rock from New York’s anti-folk scene – he was mentored by the founding father of the anti-folk movement, Lach One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn saw a Wakey!

Wakey! gig and loved it so much that he used the song War Sweater in the season 6 finale and then gave Grubbs a recurring role.
